Caring for curly hair: a simple, honest guide
Curly hair thrives on the right cut, moisture and a little patience. Our curly hair specialist shares how to work with your natural pattern, not against it.

Curly hair is not difficult, it is just different. Most of the frustration curly clients feel comes from being treated as though their hair were straight: cut the same way, styled the same way and sold the same products. Work with your natural pattern instead of against it and everything gets easier. Here is how we think about curls, and what you can do at home.
Why curls behave differently
A curl is a spiral, so the natural oils from your scalp take far longer to travel down the strand. That is why curly hair tends to feel drier at the ends, and why moisture matters more than anything else. Curls also shrink as they dry, sometimes by a lot, which is exactly why how your hair is cut makes such a difference.
Get the cut right first
The single biggest thing you can do for your curls is have them cut properly. Curly hair should be shaped to its pattern, with weight removed thoughtfully rather than thinned out or heavily layered. Over-thinning is the most common reason curls look shapeless and frizzy once they dry. A good curl cut falls into place on its own, with very little effort from you.

Washing and moisture
Curls rarely need washing as often as straight hair. When you do wash, a gentle, sulphate-free shampoo protects moisture, and conditioner is your best friend. Detangle with a wide-tooth comb or your fingers while conditioner is still in and your hair is soaking wet, never when it is dry. A weekly moisture or bond treatment makes a genuine difference, especially if your hair is coloured.
Style it wet, then leave it alone
Apply your styling products to soaking wet hair, scrunch gently, and then resist the urge to touch. The more you disturb curls as they dry, the more frizz you invite. Air-dry where you can, or use a diffuser on a low heat. Once your hair is completely dry, you can scrunch out any crunch from your product for soft, defined curls.
Managing frizz, honestly
There is no magic cure for frizz, and anyone who promises one is overselling. What genuinely helps is the right cut, enough moisture, the right products for your hair, and handling curls as little as possible while they dry. A little frizz is part of natural texture, and often the goal is to define your curls rather than to fight them into submission.
Coming back from heat damage
If years of straightening have loosened your natural pattern, be reassured that it can come back, gently and over time. We grow damaged lengths out with a plan that protects the hair you have while your curl returns. It is a journey rather than a single appointment, and we will always be honest with you about the timeline.
