How to make your colour last longer between appointments

Six small habits that protect your investment, keep tones richer for longer and let your hair grow stronger.

BeckiMarch 20264 min read

Beautiful colour is an investment, and a few simple habits at home can stretch that investment by weeks. Here is the routine we recommend to almost every client who wants longer-lasting tone, more shine and stronger hair.

1. Lukewarm rinses

Hot water lifts the cuticle and washes pigment out faster. A cooler final rinse seals the cuticle, locks in tone and instantly boosts shine.

2. Wash less, condition more

Most coloured hair is happiest with two or three washes a week. On non-wash days, a leave-in or oil through the mid-lengths keeps everything soft and protected.

3. The right products

Sulphate-free shampoo, a colour-protecting conditioner, and a weekly bond-building treatment will outperform almost anything else you can change at home.

4. UV protection

Sun, chlorine and salt all fade colour. A leave-in with UV filters, or a hat on bright days, makes a real difference, especially for blondes.

5. Heat with intention

Heat protectant first, every time. Drop the temperature on your tools where you can. Most hair styles beautifully at 160–180°C, not 230.

6. Book a gloss between appointments

A 20-minute glossing toner halfway between colour appointments refreshes tone, adds shine and is one of our most loved mini-services.
