Everything you need to know before your first balayage
What balayage actually is, how it differs from highlights, and how to plan your first appointment with confidence.

Balayage has become one of the most asked-for services in our salon. Here is what we wish every new client knew before their first appointment, so the result is exactly what you imagined.
Balayage is hand-painted
Where highlights use foils to create defined brightness, balayage is painted freehand. The result is softer, more natural, and grows out without a hard line.
It is a journey, not always a single visit
If your hair is currently dark or previously coloured, going significantly lighter often takes two or three considered visits. We will be honest at consultation about what is achievable and how to get there safely.
Maintenance is gentler than highlights
Most clients return every 12–16 weeks for balayage, with a gloss in between. That makes it one of the lower-maintenance lightening services available.
How to prepare
- Bring inspiration images, including ones you do not want
- Come with hair you have washed in the last 24–48 hours
- Allow up to four hours for your first appointment
- Eat well and bring something to read or a podcast
