Full head highlights are one of the most popular things we do, and one of the most asked-about when it comes to price. The honest answer is that it depends, because no two heads of hair are the same. What we can do is explain exactly what changes the cost, so you know what to expect before you sit in the chair, and can plan for the look you want.

What full head highlights actually are

Full head highlights means lightened sections are woven throughout your hair, from the front hairline all the way round to the back, top and underneath. It gives an all-over lift and dimension, rather than brightness only around the face. It is a bigger service than a half head, which focuses on the top and sides that frame your face, and that difference in time and product is the main thing that moves the price.

What affects the cost

  • The length and thickness of your hair, more hair takes more foils, product and time
  • Whether it is a full head or a half head
  • A toner or gloss to perfect the finished shade, usually included but worth checking
  • Your starting colour and how much lift is needed to reach your goal
  • Whether any colour correction or a bond-building treatment is needed to protect the hair
  • The experience level of your stylist

Because of all this, we quote you properly at a consultation rather than over the phone. You can see our current price guide on our price list, and we will always confirm the full cost with you before we begin, with no surprises at the till.

Full head or half head?

If you want brightness mainly around your face and through the top, a half head is often plenty, and kinder on your budget. If you want an all-over, lit-from-within blonde, or your hair is longer and you want dimension throughout, a full head is the one. At your consultation we will look at your hair, your photos and your routine, and tell you honestly which will give you the result you are picturing.

How long does it take

A full head of highlights with a toner and finish is usually a half-day appointment. It is worth setting the time aside and enjoying it, coffee, a magazine and a proper head massage included. Rushing colour is how things go wrong, so we build in the time your hair genuinely needs.

Making the colour last

  • Use a sulphate-free, colour-care shampoo and conditioner
  • Add a purple shampoo once a week or so to keep blonde tones cool
  • A weekly bond or moisture treatment keeps lightened hair strong and shiny
  • Protect your hair from heat with a heat protectant before styling
  • Book a toner or gloss between full appointments to refresh the shade
